A carbon brush is only as good as its holder. We make single, twin and four-brush holders in cast brass, chrome-plated and powder-coated finishes. The spring arms keep the right pressure on the brush for its full life, and the accurately machined boxes let the brush move freely without shaking.

How we make brush holders
The critical dimension in a brush holder is the box: too tight and the brush binds, too loose and it rattles and chips its edges. We machine boxes to the brush size with a controlled running clearance, in standard sizes and to your measurements. Bodies are cast brass, chrome-plated or powder-coated steel depending on the environment, with copper contact straps and brass hardware carrying the current. Spring systems — coil, leaf or roller — are selected to hold pressure across the brush's whole wear length rather than only when the brush is new. Mounting is made to your pattern, shaft clamp or stud, so the holder bolts onto the existing rocker.

How do a carbon brush and brush holder work together?
The holder does two jobs: it guides the brush squarely onto the ring or commutator, and its spring pushes the brush down with a steady force as the brush wears shorter. If the box is worn oversize the brush tilts and bounces; if the spring has weakened the contact pressure drops and the brush arcs. Either fault destroys a new brush quickly, which is why holder condition should be checked whenever brush life is short.
Do you make holders to match existing brush sizes?
Yes. Send the holder, or the brush and the mounting details, and we manufacture to those dimensions — standard box sizes such as 32×20 mm as well as custom sizes.
Which body material and finish should be chosen?
Cast brass is the general-purpose choice and handles humidity well. Chrome-plated and powder-coated steel are used where a harder body or a specific original design is required. In corrosive or wet environments, brass and plated finishes hold up better than bare steel.
Can you supply multi-brush gang assemblies?
